Road work scheduled in C-U, Savoy
Road work in the area will affect traffic in the area for the next few days — and in one case, for months.
CHAMPAIGN
A portion of Church Street in Champaign will be reduced to one lane beginning Friday to allow for work on the Washington Street East Watershed Drainage Basin project.
Church Street near New Street will be reduced to a single lane starting at 7 a.m. Friday while a new storm manhole and curb inlets are built to improve drainage in the area.
The lane is scheduled to re-open at 4:30 p.m. July 1.
The 600 block of West Hill Street will be closed from time to time for up to an hour beginning at 7 a.m. Friday while a new storm sewer is installed.
Traffic flaggers will be present on Hill Street at Prospect Avenue and at Lynn Street to direct motorists during the closures.
The street closures on Hill Street are expected to be completed by 4:30 p.m. Friday.
The east half of the north alley in the block bounded by Green, First, John and Locust streets will be closed beginning Monday to replace the deteriorated alley pavement and improve storm water drainage within the alley.
The south alley in the block will remain open.
Eastbound traffic on Green Street will be diverted to the center turn lane between Sixth and Wright streets through Nov. 1 while Petry Kuhne prepares to begin rebuilding the businesses at 625, 627 and 629 E. Green St. damaged during a March fire.
The original traffic pattern on Green Street will be restored for high-traffic events such as student move-in days and home football games.
SAVOY
Woodfield Drive in Savoy will be closed from Arbour Towne Place to Curtis Road beginning at 7 a.m. Monday. for reconstruction work.
While the road will be rebuilt in stages to allow access to at least one drive for any of the businesses along the route at all times, it may be necessary to access the business entrances from the parking lot on the west side of the road.
The project is expected to take about five weeks.
URBANA
Oregon Street in Urbana will be closed from Webber Street to Lynn Street beginning at 7 a.m. Tuesday to repair a sewer line at 803 E. Oregon St.
Local traffic will be allowed.
The street is scheduled to reopen at 5 p.m. June 30.
