Assistance with winter power bills available
DANVILLE — Area residents can sign up this week to get help with their power bills this winter.
The East Central Illinois Community Action Agency will conduct its annual Power Blitz at the David S. Palmer Arena on Tuesday.
Income-eligible families can sign up for payment assistance from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on a first-come, first-serve basis. Customers should park in the city parking garage on Walnut Street across from the Danville Municipal Building.
Customers also must bring the following information:
— Proof of income for all household members for the past 30 days.
— A copy of your most recent energy bill.
— Social Security cards or a print-out for all household members.
Customers must also meet these 2011 poverty income guidelines: The 30-day income for a household with one member cannot exceed $1,361; two members, $1,839; three members, $2,316; four members, $2,794; five members, $3,271; six members, $3,749; seven members, $4,226; and eight members, $4,704.
If funds are available after the Power Blitz, Community Action Agency officials will take applications by appointment only at the agency, 56 N. Vermilion St., Danville. Applications will be taken until all funds are exhausted, and benefits will be paid to the household's utility provider. For more information, call 443-2705.
