Man killed in crash with school bus near Kankakee

Updated 11:40 a.m. Thursday.

KANKAKEE — One person is dead after a crash with a school bus northwest of Kankakee early Thursday.

A release from the Illinois State Police at Ashkum said the accident happened at 7:15 a.m. on Illinois 113.

A school bus from Herscher High School was stopped loading passengers on 113 just west of Warner Bridge Road when it was struck from behind by a westbound passenger car.

The car driver, identified as Aaron Ballenger, 29, of Braceville, died from his injuries; a few of the students on the bus were taken to Kankakee hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.

A reconstruction team from the state police was investigating.
