WAND power boost may disrupt signal temporarily

DECATUR — Some viewers of WAND-TV can expect interruptions in the station's signal today as the station installs a new antenna that will increase WAND's power.

With the increase in power, the Decatur-based station should be able to reach more than 1 million people in central Illinois, up from about 900,000 previously, WAND said in a news release.

The high-definition signal is expected to reach east into Danville, north into Peoria, west past New Berlin and south of Effingham, the station said.

WAND should also gain a more reliable over-the-air signal, said Chief Engineer Frank Brannock.

"This will reduce signal fade, which some viewers experience during bad weather," Brannock said.

WAND-TV is expected to be on and off for short periods today during the antenna installation, affecting viewers who receive the signal over the air.

Viewers watching WAND on Comcast or AT&T will still get WAND programming, but subscribers to other cable companies and satellite services can expect interruptions on WAND.
