Part of Water Street to be closed

CHAMPAIGN — A half-block of Water Street in Champaign will be closed beginning on Wednesday.
Water Street will be closed to traffic from Chester Street south for one-half block starting at 7 a.m. Wednesday while Cross Construction repairs the city’s sanitary sewer system.
A portion of the sanitary sewer collapsed at the location, creating a sinkhole.
Local traffic will continue to have access to parking lots in the area, but drivers need to approach the entrances from the south.
In addition, street parking will be prohibited in the northern half of the 200 block of Water Street during the project.
The work is scheduled to be completed by 4:30 p.m. Feb. 15.
