Sewer work to close portion of John Street

CHAMPAIGN — A portion of John Street in Champaign will be closed to through traffic beginning Thursday while a contractor does storm sewer work.

John Street will be closed to through traffic from just east of Prairie Street to just east of Lynn Street beginning Thursday. The closure is scheduled to last for about two months, depending on weather conditions.

Pedestrian access will be allowed from each intersecting side street along John.

A new 60-inch storm sewer will be built down the middle of the existing roadway, replacing a 30-inch storm sewer.
