Roadways could be slick as temperatures drop overnight
|
LINCOLN — The National Weather Service has issued a special weather statement warning that streets could be slick as Sunday's snowmelt freezes overnight.
Abundant sunshine and mild temperatures during the day melted much of the snow that remained on the ground. Temperatures have now dropped into the upper-20s and lower-30s across Champaign, Vermilion and McLean counties, and the lower temperatures are freezing wet roads.
The weather service also advises that strong winds are likely to blow more snow across the roads. Bridges and overpasses will be especially susceptible to the freezing conditions. Drivers are urged to use caution.
