4 finalists for UI College of Media dean
URBANA – The University of Illinois College of Media has whittled its dean candidates to four finalists, and none is a local faculty member.
The finalists are:
– Laurence Alexander, associate dean, University of Florida Graduate School and professor of journalism and communications. His campus visit is Nov. 30 and Dec. 1.
– John Pavlik, chairman and professor, Rutgers University Department of Journalism and Media Studies. His campus visit: Dec. 7 and 8.
– Steve Jones, professor, UI Chicago Department of Communication. Campus visit: Dec. 9 and 10.
– Gary Kebbel, journalism program director, John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. Campus visit: Dec. 14 and 15.
The dean is the chief administrator for the College of Media, responsible for strategic planning, human resources and budget management.
Journalism Professor Walt Harrington has been interim dean since Aug. 16. Ron Yates resigned from the dean post effective Aug. 15.
