Rain falls shy of monthly record
But it's more than enough to mess with parking at today's UI game
The area just missed setting a record for October rainfall Friday, as water and leaves clogged sewers.
There were no reports of major flood damage, according to Champaign and Douglas county emergency services.
State climatologist Jim Angel said that as of 8 a.m. Friday, the local weather station had 7.96 inches of rain for October. By mid-afternoon, that figure was 8.78, just short of the 9 inches set in 1941.
"It seems likely we won't get much more, given that the rain is tapering off," he said. "But the leaves in storm drains are creating localized flooding."
But even in flood-prone Villa Grove, there were no reports Friday evening of significant damage.
Joe Victor, head of the Douglas County emergency services, said, "We haven't had any flooding at all so far – let's hope it holds."
