Heat index headed for 100 Wednesday afternoon
LINCOLN — The National Weather Service has issued a special weather statement regarding the heat in central and southeast Illinois.
Temperatures are expected to climb into the mid-to-upper 90s by mid-afternoon. High temperatures
combined with dewpoints in the middle 60s to near 70 will result in heat index values climbing to around 100 degrees during this afternoon until 7 p.m.
The combination of heat and humidity will create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible.
Drink plenty of water, stay in an air-conditioned room, and out of the sun. Check on relatives and neighbors who may not have air conditioning.
Children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances but especially when the inside temperature of a closed vehicle can reach dangerously high temperatures in a matter of minutes.
