Severe Thunderstorm Warning

The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for a portion of East Central Illinois.

The warning includes Western Champaign and Northern Piatt Counties until 3:00 Thursday afternoon. Quarter size hail, 60 mile per hour wind gusts, and lightning are expected with this storm.

The National Weather Service also said some funnel clouds were spotted over Champaign County on Thursday.

They were seen around 1 p.m. along I-74 between Mahomet and Champaign.  More clouds were seen around 2 p.m. at Willard Airport in Savoy.

The weather service said there's a chance for more funnel clouds on Thursday, in particular east of Highway 51 and as far east as I-57.  In rare cases, a cloud could touch down and become a tornado.

You should be prepared to move to a shelter if the weather gets worse.
