LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Mildred "Millie" Ostro Vorbeck, 86, of Lafayette, Ind., died at 11:50 a.m. Tuesday (July 13, 2010) at Regency Place of
She was born on Aug. 12, 1923, in Philadelphia, Pa., to the late Leo and Gertrude Cohen Ostro.
She married Joseph F. Vorbeck on March 5, 1957, in Champaign. He preceded her in death on Oct. 31, 1996.
Mrs. Vorbeck owned and operated Good Earth and Things, a floral and gift shop in West Lafayette, Ind., for 15 years. She enjoyed floral design, crafts, animals and shopping.
She lived previously in Batavia, Ohio, for 11 years, where she served as president of her condominium association for much of that time. She also volunteered for the Humane
She had a philanthropic spirit, making donations to numerous organizations and, as a volunteer, teaching craft classes to at-risk children in Lafayette.
Surviving are two daughters, Thea Strand (husband, David) of Lafayette and Gretchen "Cookie" Miller (husband, Doug) of Lexington, Ky.; and one son, David Vorbeck (wife,
Tammy Turner Vorbeck) of West Lafayette. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Aaron Strand of Lafayette, Ryan Strand (wife, Becca) of New York City, Justin Vorbeck of LaPorte, Cassie and Kristen Vorbeck, both of Lafayette, Callie Cady (husband, Greg) of Florence, Ky., Lindsay Miller of Highland Heights, Ky., and Tyler Miller of Richmond, Ky.
She was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.
A memorial visitation will be from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 2, at Hippensteel Tribute Center, 2529 Schuyler Ave., Lafayette, followed by the memorial service at 6 p.m.
