Clifton Powell Jr.

RANTOUL – Clifton Powell Jr., 58, of Rantoul transitioned into eternal life on April 23, 2011, at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.

Clifton was born on Oct.18, 1952, the son of Clifton Powell Sr. and Eddie Louise Powell.

Funeral services have been entrusted to Williams Memorial Services Ltd., 1203 N. Market St., Champaign.

Visitation will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 30, at Northside Church of Christ, 1700 W. Anthony Drive, Champaign, with Celebration of Life services following. Interment will be at Lincoln Cemetery, Urbana. Officiant will be Pastor Arthur Moore.

Mr. Powell is survived by his ex-wife, Willie Mae Powell; and his fiancee of more than 20 years, Lorine Boykins.

He is also survived by sons, Marcus and Cliffer Powell; daughters, Juanita Jackson, Sheryl of San Diego, Calif., Elene of Decatur, Ga., and Addalisa Boykins of Indianapolis; special daughter, Michelle Pettus; brothers, Joseph and Jonas Powell (Jackson, Miss.); sisters, Clarince Foote (Yazoo City, Miss.), Katie Davis (Champaign), Ollie Zachry (Tulsa, Okla.), Gail Powell (Jackson); 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews; and grandmother, Thelma Barnes, who will turn 112 on May 7, 2011.

He was preceded in death by both parents and brother, Henry Powell.

Clifford had a fulfilling life. He graduated from high school in Jackson and moved to Champaign around 1974. He was employed by Plastipak as a maintenance worker for almost 20 years and many of his co-workers will sorely miss him.

In his spare time he enjoyed socializing with family and friends along with working on big block engines. Although Clifton was a very stoic man, he made sure that he got his point across.

Clifton will be sorely missed by his family and all who knew him. "Rest in Peace, Rise in Glory, Clifton Powell Jr."
