LIMA, Ohio – Georgie A. Buhrmester, 71, of Lima, Ohio, formerly of Wellington, died at 6:17 p.m. Wednesday (Dec. 21, 2011) at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.
Born Sept. 17, 1940, in Danville, she is the daughter of Otis and Thelma (Caldwell) Swartz. She married Gene R. Buhrmester on Dec. 27, 1959, at Wellington. He survives.
Also surviving are her mother of rural Wellington; two sons, Michael Buhrmester of Long Beach, Calif., and James (Lori) Buhrmester of Swanton, Ohio; one granddaughter, Lauren Elizabeth Mittelhauser; two step-grandchildren, Lynzie Hilfinger and Ian (Harmony) Hilfinger; three step great-grandchildren; one brother, Joseph (Karen) Swartz of Sun City West, Ariz.; and one sister, Peggy (Dale) Ramert of Danville. She was preceded in death by her father and one daughter, Michelle R. Buhrmester.
Georgie was a high school vocal music teacher. She was a member of the United Church of Christ in Spencerville, Ohio. She also was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, the Ohio Music Education Association, the Ohio Education Association and the Allen County Retired Teachers Association in Ohio. She was an accomplished vocalist and pianist. Over the years, she conducted many high school musicals and show choirs. She also preformed with the Lima Symphony Orchestra Chorus. She loved her family, her many students and many friends.
Funeral services for Mrs. Buhrmester will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 27, at Wellington United Methodist Church in Wellington. The Rev. Janet Eggleston will officiate. Burial will be in Floral Hill Cemetery at Hoopeston. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the services on Tuesday at the church. Memorials may be made to Wellington United Methodist Church, Wellington. The family will also conduct memorial services for Mrs. Buhrmester at 7 p.m. on Jan. 2, 2012, in Spencerville, Ohio, at the United Church of Christ. Brown Alkire Funeral Home in Hoopeston is in charge of arrangements.
