URBANA – Edward Lee "Eddie" Townsend passed away on Sunday, April 29, 2012, at Provena Covenant Medical Center, Urbana.
He was born June 22, 1927, in Centralia, to Norman and Beulah Townsend.
He is survived by his wife, Rita Ann Townsend of Urbana; two sons, Edward D. Townsend of Champaign and Kenneth Harrington of Palatine; one daughter, Sylvia Ann Townsend of Tennessee; granddaughter, Quantina Townsend of Mount Vernon; four stepdaughters, Jeanette Jackson of Urbana, Valerie McGhee of Champaign, Terralisa (Tyrone) Cooper of Urbana and Yolanda Jackson of Rantoul; one stepson, Derrick (Kerry) Jackson of Bloomington; 19 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews and loved ones.
Eddie worked for the Illinois Department of Transportation as a truck driver. He was a member of the Local 26 Teamsters Union, where he worked as a laborer. He later worked for Sigma Delta Tau, from which he retired as a maintenance worker. In his spare time he repaired appliances.
Eddie dedicated his life to Christ and became a member of the Dublin Street Church of Christ.
His hobbies included gardening and fishing. He loved cooking and family gatherings. Eddie's way of telling funny stories will be dearly missed by all his family and friends.
Eddie was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, three sisters and two sons.
A Celebration of Life will commence at 11 a.m. Monday, May 7, at Dublin Street Church of Christ, 1402 W. Dublin St., Urbana. Visitation be from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Officiating will be Pastor Charles Harmon.
Leek & Sons Funeral Home, 304 E. Williams St., Danville, is in charge of arrangements.
