SAVOY – Gene S. Logas, 56, of Savoy passed away at 6:35 a.m. Tuesday (June 5, 2012) at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.
He was born on May 26, 1956, in Topeka, Kan., to Charles and Luella Sabrowski Logas. He married Nina Failoni on June 26, 1982, in Granite City, and she survives.
Also surviving are one son, Austin Morgan of Granite City; one brother, Jeff (Lori) Logas of Bradenton, Fla.; one sister, Linda Resop of Sheboygan, Wis.; one sister-in-law, Mary Beth Logas of Chicago; and three nephews, Bill and Dan Logas of Chicago and Ron Resop of Sheboygan, Wis. Also surviving is a great-nephew, Sheldon Resop of Sheboygan, Wis.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, William and Charles Logas Jr. He will be sadly missed by his additional 14 nieces and nephews and seven great-nieces and nephews.
He was the chief operations officer for Champaign Unit 4 Schools since 2005. He was an accomplished high school scholar athlete and played baseball and football for Knox College.
Later in life he received his B.S. in accounting and a Master's in Public Administration from Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Champaign in Savoy.
Visitation for Mr. Logas will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 8, at the First Baptist Church of Champaign in Savoy at the corner of Prospect and Burwash avenues.
Funeral services will take place in Granite City on Sunday, June 10, at the Irwin Chapels in Granite City.
