CHAMPAIGN – John D. Fox, 62, of Champaign passed away at home at 10:56 p.m. Monday (Sept. 10, 2012).
John, the son of George and Edna (Nowka) Fox, was born in Champaign on Jan. 23, 1950. He married Susan Annetta Satterthwaite on Aug. 16, 1986, at Lake of the Woods, Mahomet. Susan Fox survives.
Also surviving are his mother; sons, John Daniel Fox Rhodes and Jerry Fox Rhodes; and sisters, Linda Cafin of Monticello, Diane Tipps of Champaign and Lori Fox of St. Joseph. He was also a loved brother-in-law and uncle.
Mr. Fox was preceded in death by his father.
John was a skilled carpenter and a 42-year member of Carpenters' Local 44. He was periodically an instructor at Parkland College in the Construction, Design and Management program.
In addition to being a meticulous carpenter, John enjoyed woodworking and making handy items to support his wife's gardening habits and then reaping the benefits of those gardens. He loved Budweiser beer, music of all kinds, and any cats that Susan dragged home; but most of all he loved his wife.
Memorial services will begin with a casual gathering at 2 p.m. before a service at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, at the Carpenters' Local 44 Hall, 402 S. Duncan Road, Champaign, followed by Budweisers at D.R. Diggers bar until 5 p.m.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, his wife Susan requests that tax-deductible memorial contributions be made to the Parkland College Foundation for the John Fox Memorial Scholarship, which will be awarded to union apprentices/students.
