CHAMPAIGN – Homegoing celebration for Lum Curtis Rose Sr. will be held at noon Friday, Oct. 5, at Canaan Baptist Church, 402 W. Main St., Urbana. The Rev. B.J. Tatum will officiate.

Visitations will be held 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, and 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 5. Both visitations will be held at the church. Burial will be in Lincoln Memorial Gardens, Urbana.

Lum Curtis Rose Sr. was born Sept. 1, 1932, in Sturgis, Ky., to the late George Rose Sr. of Union County, Ky., and Eula Hughes-Rose of Webster County, Ky. Lum was the fifth child of the family. He gave his life to Christ at an early age.

Lum married his longtime sweetheart Anna Laura Tapp on July 10, 1950. Born to this union were nine children.

Lum is survived by four daughters, Sandra Jackson, Rita Estes (Don, deceased) and Roberta Rose, all of Champaign, and Mary Rose of Urbana; two sons, Jesse Rose (Yvette) and William "Tony" Rose (Tonia), both of Champaign; a brother, George Rose (Belinda) of Indianapolis, Ind.; 22 grandchildren; 30 great-great-grandchildren; three great-great-great-grandchildren; the INDIANA Roses and a community that loved him dearly.

Lum was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a daughter, two sons, two grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, a brother (L.V. Shelton) and two sisters (Eula Skinner and Omogene Hamilton).

Lum departed this life at 9:51 a.m. Friday (Sept. 28, 2012) at the Champaign County Nursing Home, Urbana.
