Hume – J. Donald Rollings, 96, of Hume passed away Wednesday (Oct. 3, 2012) at the Newman Rehabilitation Center in Newman.
Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. Friday at Joines-Appleby Funeral Home in Newman. Mr. Mark Neibch will officiate. A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be held at the Young America Cemetery in Hume.
Mr. Rollings was born Aug. 18, 1916, in Hume, a son of John and Bertha Kincaid Rollings. He married Maxine Kelley on Feb. 11, 1937, in Newman. She preceded him in death on Dec. 24, 2005. He was also preceded in death by two sisters and a son-in-law.
Survivors include two daughters, Kala Neibch of Winfield and Donita (John) Smith of Hume; seven grandchildren, Mark Neibch, Chris Neibch, Amanda Neibch Sundstrom, Allison Neibch Ingbretson, Julie Neibch Jackson, Susan Smith Lemke and Stacy Smith Culpepper; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
Mr. Rollings was a retired farmer. He farmed in the Hume-Metcalf area for many years. His farm was designated as a Centennial farm.
He was a member of the Edgar County Lodge No. 829 for 69 years and a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies in the Valley of Danville for 68 years.
He served nine years on the board of education of Community Unit #2 and served as board president. He was on the planning committee for the current Shiloh School Building located in Hume.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the the Hume United Methodist Church.
