CHAMPAIGN – Elizabeth Louise Gunning, 78, of Champaign passed away Oct.1, 2012, at Provena Covenant Medical Center, Urbana.
Visitation will be at noon Saturday, Oct. 6, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Tolono, with a funeral Mass to follow at 1 p.m. The Rev. Fr. John Cyr will officiate. Burial will be in St. Patrick Cemetery, Tolono.
Heath and Vaughn Funeral Home, 201 N. Elm, Champaign, is assisting with arrangements.
Mrs. Gunning was born Aug. 25, 1934, in Westville, a daughter of Joseph and Mable (Boswell) Kochera.
She married the love of her life, Dennis J. Gunning, on Aug. 22, 1953, in Tolono. He preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death were her parents, two brothers, a sister and two grandchildren.
Survivors include one son, Dennis M. Gunning (Paula); three daughters, Denise Gerhardt (Ron), Elizabeth (Liz) Hawkins (Terry), and Patti Moore; eight grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Gunning worked as a crossing guard at Carrie Busey Elementary School for over 14 years. She was a homemaker. She loved her cats and dogs. She was a seamstress and woodworker, and restored antique dolls and furniture. She was an avid gardener, winning the Garden Walk Award for best garden in 2001.
She was a member of St. Matthew Roman Catholic Church.
