ST. JOSEPH – Reid Palmer, 83, of St. Joseph passed away at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday (Oct. 2, 2012) at Country Health, Gifford.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 5, at Freese Funeral Home, 302 E. Grand Ave., St. Joseph, with David Barcus and Vincent Santanelli officating. Burial will be in Mount Olive Cemetery, Mayview. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Reid was born July 2, 1929, in Dayton, Ohio, to Henry and Lucille Taylor Palmer. He married Alma Joyce "June" Shirley on Oct. 25, 1946. She survives.
Reid is also survived by two sons, Michael (Linda) Palmer of St. Joseph and Gregory (Jean) Palmer of St. Joseph; five granddaughters; two great-granddaughters and one great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Ronald Palmer.
Reid graduated from St. Joseph High School. He was a sheet metal worker by profession. He retired from Sheet Metal Local No. 218 in Champaign in 1994. He operated the Sheet Metal Local Food Bank for 10 years.
Reid was a member of St. Joseph Church of Christ for 76 years. He served as decon and a current trustee.
