Glenn Williams

URBANA – Glenn W. Williams, 78, of Urbana, formerly of Rantoul, went to be with the Lord on the evening of Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012, at the Veterans Affairs Illiana Health Care System, Danville.

He was born Jan. 22, 1934, in Geary, Okla., a son of George and Anna May (Kiefer) Williams. He married Jeanette Cordeiro on July 4, 1953, in Taunton, Mass. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Glenn (Kathy) Williams of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Mark Williams of Northridge, Calif., five daughters, Cheryl (Lloyd) Tyre of Spokane, Wash., Karen (Pat Lenover) Shelton of Urbana, Norma (Dennis) Hamilton of Champaign, Linda (Marty) Wedig of Urbana and Terri (Jack) Smart of Urbana; a brother, L.J. Williams of Oklahoma, a sister, Leona Killion of Washington; 21 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, two sisters and a granddaughter, Cassie Rogers.

Glenn graduated from Holly High School in Colorado in 1952. He then joined the U.S. Air Force and served 20 years, during the Korean Conflict and Vietnam, retiring as a master sergeant from Chanute Air Force Base. He worked in life insurance with the Noncommissioned Officers Association for 13 years. He then drove a Rantoul schoolbus for many years and worked at the Willow Pond Golf Course.

He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church, Rantoul. He lived his many hours both working on the golf course and was an avid player. He spent many hours enjoying his family.

Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Lux Memorial Chapel, 1551 East Grove, Rantoul. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 on Wednesday, also at Lux Memorial Chapel.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Danville National Cemetery, Danville.
