TUSCOLA – Lynn Statzer, who was born Nov. 10, 1938, to Homer and Ruetta Milstead Jones in Tuscola, died Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012, in Scottsdale, Ariz.
Lynn graduated from Eastern Illinois University in 1960. While there, she was affiliated with Sigma Kappa sorority. That same year, she married her high school sweetheart, Neil Statzer; both had attended Villa Grove High School.
They were blessed with two daughters, Misty McGlynn of Palatine and Mary Statzer Kadish of Tempe, Ariz. Other cherished extended family includes: grandchildren, Andy McGlynn and Kate McGlynn; sons-in-law, Tim McGlynn and Gene Kadish; stepgranddaughter, Wendy Grace; stepgrandson, Zach Kadish; great-grandchildren, Aiden and Noah Grace; nieces, Vickie Brooks and Lori Statzer; and nephews, Shawn Statzer, Todd Statzer, Scott Statzer, Jim Ware, Bob Ware and Don Hammett.
Lynn and Neil were married for 52 years. "Family first" was important to Lynn, and she and her family rarely missed a wedding, graduation or other family gatherings.
Lynn spent most of her adult life teaching at East Prairie Middle School in Tuscola. After retirement from public school teaching, she and Neil spent several years traveling to Arizona for the winters. These trips ceased when Lynn accepted a job opportunity to work for the University of Illinois as a supervisor for student teachers.
After retirement from the UI, she and Neil made a few more trips to Arizona before deciding to move permanently in 2010. At her death, she was living at McDowell Village Retirement Community in Scottsdale.
Those who preceded her in death include her mother and father; one brother, Clarence; and two sisters, Ada Hammett and Maysel Ware.
Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be sent to the American Lung Association or a charity of the donor's choosing.
A memorial service celebrating Lynn's life will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 25, 2012, at Tuscola First Christian Church, 100 E. Church St., Tuscola.
