Max Dines

DANVILLE – Max Eugene Dines, 76, of Danville passed away at 6:36 a.m. Sunday (Nov. 4, 2012) at the home he shared with his wife of 33 years, Sue (McGowen-Reed).

Born July 8, 1936, in Bismarck, Max was the sixth of 13 children born to Ralph A. and Ercel M (Watson) Dines.

Max loved and was loved so very much by his friends and family. He married Sue on Nov. 20, 1979.

Also surviving are their children, son Ricky D. (Beccy) Reed of Danville and daughters Julie A. (Kevin) McKenzie of Danville and Judith M. Dines of Westville; their four grandchildren, Lindsay Darr, Miley Reed, Tyler McKenzie and Lauren McKenzie; Max's siblings, brother Ronald Dines of Danville and sisters Ruth Patton of Danville, Beverly Mills of Bismarck, Carolyn Pichon of Bismarck, Linda (Jack) Smith of Danville and Sandy (Larry) Steinbaugh of Alvin.

Max has joined his parents, brothers Gerald, William, Ralph, Donald and Larry Dines and sister Barbara (Henry) Clapp.

Graduating from Bismarck High School in 1954, Max went on to start his career as a machinist and later shop manager that would endure until his death. He worked at Harrison Steel, Berkley-Davis, Montgomery Machine and Furry Inc. until he opened his own business, Dines Machine & Manufacturing, in 1983. He owned the company with his wife until 1998, but not retiring from the business until 2002.

Max was an active member of the Danville Elks Lodge 332 and the Danville Boat Club, where he was on the board for 10 years and served as its commodore in 2000, and he spent many days of his retirement on the links at Turtle Run Golf Course. An avid sports fan, Max enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears and Illini basketball.

Max will always be remembered as a man who was kind and generous to all who knew him. One of his favorite things was to take his truck all around town delivering nuts and candies to area homes and businesses during the annual fundraiser for Illinois Elks Children's Care Corp. and the VA activities. He would always lend a hand to anyone in need and never turned down a request for help.

A celebration of Max's life will be held at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012. Entombment will be at Sunset Memorial Park Swan Court Mausoleum.

Visitation for family and friends will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7, at the funeral home, with Danville Elks Lodge 332 performing a memorial service at 4.

Memorials may be made in Max's name to the Carle Hospital Oncology Department.
