NEWMAN – Henry H. "Brownie" Bowman, 88, of Newman passed away at 10:01 a.m. Tuesday (Nov. 6, 2012), at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon.
He was a farmer, a self-employed truck driver and employed with Ecoff in Tuscola. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Paris, Ill., and the Hume, Ill., American Legion Post. Brownie was a corporal in the United States Army Air Corps, serving in Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe during World War II.
Born Jan. 20, 1924, in Tuscola, he was the son of Arthur and Helen (Twigg) Bowman. Mr. Bowman married Barbara Ann (Taylor) Long on Nov. 25, 1980, at the home of Mrs. Harvey Winkler in Newman.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Ann Bowman of Newman; stepchildren, Mike (Carol) Low of Ogden, Marcy Ullom of Coral Gables, Fla., and Sue Long of Greenback, Tenn.; grandchildren, Daniel (Michelle) Low of Dunlap, Grace Low of Ogden, David A. Vermillion of Reston, Va., Chelsi (Jonathan) Barker of Harriman, Tenn., and Sheri Vermillion and her boyfriend Chris Stephens of Greenback, Tenn.; great-grandchildren, Haven Low of Dunlap, Caleb Low of Ogden, Lucas Valentine of Harriman, Tenn., and Isaac Barker of Harriman, Tenn.; numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services for Mr. Bowman will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 9, at Stewart and Carroll Funeral Home with the Rev. Fr. David Zimmerman officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to service time Friday, also at Stewart and Carroll Funeral Home.
Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Paris, Ill.
Military honors will be provided by the Hume, Ill., American Legion.
