RANTOUL – Elmer E. Olson, 83, of Rantoul died at 4:09 a.m. Saturday (Nov. 10, 2012) at Prairie Village, Rantoul.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 12, 2012, at Baier Family Funeral Services, 406 E. Pells St., Paxton, with the Rev. Steve Lombardo officiating. Burial will follow in Huls Cemetery, rural Gifford.
Visitation will be one hour before the funeral service on Monday at the funeral home.
Elmer was born Jan. 1, 1929, in rural Penfield, the son of Fred and Tennie Aden Olson. He married Sheila Stites on Dec. 19, 1951, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Gifford. She preceded him in death on Feb. 19, 1986.
Mr. Olson is survived by four sons, Dennis Olson of Savoy, Gerald Olson of Danville, Rodney Olson of Terre Haute, Ind., and Scott Olson of Phoenix, Ariz.; three daughters, Dee Ann (Dave) Ryan of Danville, Jody (Richard) Albers of Gifford and Glenda (Randy Frerichs) Schluter of Champaign; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Margie Huls of Paxton and Marcella Stephanou of Rantoul; four brothers, Eugene (Dottie) Olson of California, Ervin Olson of Central America, Eldred (Nancy) Olson of Colfax and Earl (Carol) Olson of rural Urbana; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Esther Lange of Rantoul.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Elmer attended Armstrong High School. He worked Civil Service at Chanute Air Force Base for 35 years, retiring in 1985. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Gifford, a former member of the Rantoul Moose and a former school board member for the Gifford Grade School.
Elmer enjoyed flying and while at Chanute he got his pilot's license. He was a member of the Chanute Aero Club. He enjoyed playing pool and euchre and traveling to Mexico with his brother, Eldred. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
