NEWMAN – Millie Allen, 86, of Newman passed away on Friday (Nov. 9, 2012) at the Newman Rehabilitation Center in Newman.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday (Nov. 12, 2012) at the Joines-Appleby Funeral Home in Newman. Burial will be held at the Albin Cemetery at the Wesley Chapel Church. A visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Allen was born on Aug. 17, 1926, in Newman, a daughter of H.C. and Rosa Anderson White. She married Shelton Allen on May 14, 1944, in Homer. He preceded her in death on Oct. 7, 2008.
Mrs. Allen was also preceded in death by a son and daughter-in-law, John and Kathy Allen; a great-grandson, Dustin Allen; and three sisters, Anna Swadener, Ethel Michael and Martha Lewis.
Surviving are children Jerry (Linda) Allen of Auxvasse, Mo., and Linda (Steve) Magill of Broadlands; grandchildren Shelly Powell of Farmer City, Cammie (Jim) Gossett of Savoy, Chanin (Dave) Peyton of Merrimack, N.H., Jake Allen of Auxvasse, Josh (Kelly) Allen of Shoshoni, Wyo., and Amber (Jesse) McGrath of Columbia, Mo.; great-grandchildren Shayna Allen, Trevor and Clayton Gossett, Andrew and Scott Peyton, and Brynn Millie Allen and Braylen McGrath; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Millie was a lifetime member of the Eastern Star, a member of the Shaw Memorial Presbyterian in Newman, and alongside her husband was a farmer in the area for many years. They also owned and operated the Allen Pro Hardware Store in Newman for 17 years before retiring in 1994.
She loved to read, crochet and cross-stitch. She collected dolls, and left many great memories with everyone she met. People lovingly referred to her as "Nan."
