BEMENT – Shirley E. Cogdill, 74, of Bement passed away at 1:05 a.m. Monday (Nov. 12, 2012) at Bement Healthcare Center, Bement.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16, at the Monticello Township Cemetery, Monticello. The Rev. Father Bruce Lopez will officiate. There will be no visitation.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorial contributions can be made to the Piatt County Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 170, White Heath, IL 61884.
Shirley was born on Jan. 2, 1938, in Dubois, a daughter of Dean James and Edna Waldman.
Surviving children include: Tenna (Phil) Knox of Monticello, Dale (Brenda) Cogdill of Monticello, Terry Cogdill of Las Vegas, Nev., Tammy Chitwood of Bement, Greg (Gidget) Cogdill of Bement and Jamie (Jason) Danenhower of Bement.
Also surviving are 17 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and a sister, Janet (Dick) Manning of Monticello.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, David Waldman.
Shirley worked for many years as a home healthcare worker and enjoyed taking care of the elderly. She liked to trail ride in her younger years and loved her horse Friday. She loved all animals and owned many dogs during her lifetime.
She was a wonderful grandmother and will be missed by those she touched in her life. She would have loved that in lieu of other expressions of sympathy, donations were made to the Piatt County Animal Shelter in her memory.
Roux-Hinds Funeral Home, 348 N. Piatt St., Bement, has been entrusted by her family to honor Shirley's life.
