FLORA – Lora June Carrell, 86, of Flora died at 10:05 a.m. Wednesday (Nov. 14, 2012) at Illini Heritage Nursing Home in Champaign.

She was born Sept. 14, 1926, in East St. Louis, Ill., to David and Goldie (Heberer) Smith. She married Verle L. Carrell on June 10, 1949, in Carbondale. He preceded her in death on Aug. 1, 2000.

Mrs. Carrell received multiple education degrees from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, and taught in the communities of Coulterville, Havana, Bethalto, Cisne, and Tolono Unity Junior High, where she taught social studies.

Being a faithful follower of Jesus Christ, she was a member of Harmony United Methodist Church of Flora, where she also taught Sunday School. In addition, she was a longtime Sadorus United Methodist Church member, Sunday School teacher and youth group leader. She also served as the local American Cancer Society coordinator in Sadorus, volunteered at the Clay County Hospital Gift Shop, and assisted with a nursing home ministry at the Flora Care Center.

She is survived by two sons, Terry Carrell (Sue) of Sidney and Kent Carrell (Laurel) of Marion; two daughters, Becky Ford (Steve) of St. Joseph and Marla Brunaugh (Nathan) of Carbondale; 15 grandchildren, A.J. Carrell of Sidney, Brad Carrell (Melissa) of Geneseo, Chancellor Carrell (Amy) of Indianapolis, Ind., Aaron Carrell (Jennifer) of Minneapolis, Minn., Hope Ham (Ben) of Augusta, Ga., Patrick Ford (Lucy) of Maryland Heights, Mo., Ethan Ford of St. Joseph, Suzanne Ford of St. Joseph, and Luke, Samuel, David, Benjamin, Lilliana, John and Titus Brunaugh, all of Carbondale; eight great-grandchildren, Nick, Landon, Alexis, Broderick, Claire, Lyla, Brielle and Jediah; and one sister, Vi Arbuckle of Owensboro, Ky.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one sister (Eva Sorrels).

Funeral services for Lora June Carrell will be held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 18, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. Burial will be in Johnsonville Cemetery, Johnsonville. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society Relay For Life.
