DANVILLE – Elva Gretchen Gossett Bowman died at 90 years of age on Sunday, Nov. 18, 2012.

Born in Tangier, Ind., on Feb. 7, 1922, her parents were Birl and Faye Gossett.

They later moved to Bismarck, where she attended Bismarck schools and graduated from high school in 1940.

While she was working at Robert Holmes Brothers, she was spied by a young photographer named Dallas Bowman. They married on July 12, 1947. She and Dallas worked at the family business, Bowman Studios, at 24 N. Hazel St. in Danville, that was later moved to 904 N. Franklin.

After Dallas' death in 1998, Elva began working for the Ray O'Heron Company in Danville. She remained employed there for 31 years until she was 87.

She is survived by her children and their spouses, Myra and Mark Sargeant from Chattanooga, Tenn., Dallas and Shelly Bowman from Danville, and Brad and Kathy Bowman from Carmel, Ind. She was blessed with seven grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her sisters, Elizabeth and Evelyn, and her brother, Don.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, the family is requesting charitable donations be made to "It's My Very Own: Bags of Love" - a ministry providing comfort and joy to displaced children in Vermilion County. Checks to be made payable to "It's My Very Own," and sent to the Danville Seventh-day Adventist Church, 3825 N. Vermilion St., Danville, Illinois 61832.

The viewing is to be held at Sunset Funeral Home, 3940 N. Vermilion St., Danville, on Tuesday, Nov. 20, from 4 to 8 p.m.

Funeral services are on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Danville Seventh-day Adventist Church, as above.

The family of Elva Bowman is grateful to God to have had their sweet mother with them for so many wonderful years, and we are so thankful for all of the love and support we have received from family and friends.
