ST. JOSEPH – Darrell Dean Duncan, 79, of St. Joseph passed away at 12:31 a.m. Monday (Nov. 26, 2012) at his residence in St. Joseph.
A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at Trigg & Calvert DeLand Chapel, DeLand, with Pastor Ed Stephens officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in DeLand Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Trigg & Calvert DeLand Chapel.
Memorials may be made to the Darrell Duncan Memorial Fund.
Darrell was born on June 4, 1933, in Longview, the son of Sanford and Katherine Collins Duncan. He married Sharon Dunaway on May 27, 2011, in Urbana.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon (Compton) Duncan of St. Joseph; children, Mike Duncan of Danville, Patricia (Duncan) Russell of Danville, Mark (Cheryl) Duncan of Champaign, Russell (Rebecca) Duncan of White Heath and Richard (Margaret) Duncan of Milwaukee, Wis.; stepson, Todd (Kelly) Compton of Fairmount; seven grandchildren, Ashley Duncan, Shannon Duncan, Austin Duncan, Sage Russell, Audrey Duncan, Tristyn Compton and Skylar Compton; one brother, Harold (Helen) Wheatley of Savoy; and two sisters, Mary (Carl) Ray of Murdock and Sue Roetemier of Elma, Wash.
He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, John, Alfred, Donald, Ross, Joe Wheatley and Virgil Farris; and two sisters, Frances Muriel Davison and Charolette Vandepol.
Darrell attended New Mercy Worship in Mattoon.
He was a sergeant in the U.S. Army, stationed in Anchorage, Alaska from 1951 to 1954.
He enjoyed fishing, camping and woodworking. He was a member of the VFW.
