URBANA – A "Celebration of Life" memorial service for Dorris H. Large will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Philo Road Church of Christ, 2601 S. Philo Road, Urbana.
Dorris passed away on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 22, at her home. She was born Feb. 12, 1920, in Salem, Ill., the daughter of Hazel Finn Holt and Hallie H. Holt. On Jan 30, 1949, she married Hudson Dan Large in Springfield. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and sisters, Eunice Ade and Gloria Albin. She is survived by several nieces and nephews and numerous close friends.
Dorris graduated from Springfield High School and from Cincinnati Bible Seminary. Her thirst for knowledge continued throughout her life. She loved books and the things that she could learn from them. She also enjoyed taking extension classes and teaching others the things she had learned. Dorris has donated her body to science so that others can continue to learn.
Dorris enjoyed traveling with her friends and family and learning about other cultures. She lived in several places, but one of her favorite times was when she lived in Japan for nine months. Her love of the Orient was evident in her home.
Dorris was a member of the Twin Cities Garden Club, was active in Home Extension for many years, and was a member of the Philo Road Church of Christ. She showed her love of God in all that she did. She enjoyed doing a puppet ministry, teaching Sunday School classes and helping with Bible School. Although she had no children of her own, she loved all children as if they were her own.
Dorris H. Large was passionate about life and will be missed by many. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, the family requests donations be made to "Caring for Kenya," a mission project that Dorris was interested in.
