CHAMPAIGN – Duane W. Cekander, 84, of Champaign passed away at 9:35 p.m. Sunday (Nov. 25, 2012) at Provena Covenant Medical Center, Urbana, after a short illness with lymphoma.
He was born July 21, 1928, in Sadorus, to Albert and Ida Kamradt Cekander and was the youngest of six children. He married his high school sweetheart, Betty Gerth, in Sadorus on June 17, 1951, and she survives.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters. He attended the University of Illinois and was the founder of Allied Title Services in Champaign for many years until it was sold in 1984 and then was able to spend many weekends camping and spent 20 winters at their home in Estero, Fla.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and was stationed in the European Theater. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Champaign and the American Legion Post No. 24.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. today (Thursday, Nov. 29) at Mount Hope mausoleum, where entombment will take place. The Rev. Jeff Caithimer will officiate. Morgan Memorial Home, 1304 Regency Drive, West, Savoy, is in charge of arrangements.
