URBANA – Elma Satterthwaite Hinkhouse, 94, of Urbana passed away Nov. 28, 2012, at home.
She was born on Feb. 20, 1918, in Salem, Ohio, to William D. and Mabel Cameron Satterthwaite. A graduate of Olney Friends School in Barnesville, Ohio, in 1936, she went on to become an administrative assistant to the president of the Deming Company of Salem.
She married F. William Hinkhouse in January 1962, and following the wedding, joined him on their farm near West Branch, Iowa, until their retirement in 1987. He preceded her in death on Feb. 23, 1998. Shortly thereafter, she moved to Urbana to be closer to her brother, Cameron Satterthwaite, and his family. Cameron died May 28, 2011.
Surviving are sisters-in-law, Helen Satterthwaite of Urbana and Doris Hinkhouse of West Branch, Iowa; nieces, Tracy Satterthwaite of Urbana and Hilda (Bill) Bowers of West Branch, Iowa; and nephews, Mark Satterthwaite of Urbana, Tod (Beth) Satterthwaite of Champaign, Keith Satterthwaite of Columbia, Mo., Richard (Anji) Hinkhouse of West Branch, Iowa, Clifford (Monica) Hinkhouse of West Branch, Iowa, Glenn (Pam) Hinkhouse of West Branch, Iowa, and Stanley Hinkhouse of West Branch, Iowa.
Elma enjoyed gardening, knitting, sewing and traveling. She also enjoyed a good hike in the woods, identifying wildflowers and birds with her nieces and nephews. She was a lifelong member of the Society of Friends (Quakers), attending meeting in Salem, Ohio, West Branch, Iowa, and Urbana.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Dec. 1, at the Friends Meeting House, 1904 E. Main St., Urbana.
