CHAMPAIGN – Mr. Thomas Harvey Banks of Champaign, 73, passed away Monday (Nov. 26, 2012) at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.
He was born May 10, 1939, in Clinton, to Maurice Raymond and Anna Marguerite Banks. He was the youngest of six siblings. Tom was united in marriage on Aug. 20, 1960, to Maxine F. Beck, also of Clinton.
He was drafted in the U.S Army in 1961 and served as a communication specialist. He was stationed with his wife at Fort Shafter, Honolulu, Hawaii, where they gave birth to their first son in 1963.
Tom worked for the Illinois Central Railroad in Clinton, Chicago, Mobile, Ala., and Champaign, where he retired after 47 years of dedicated service.
He is survived by his wife, Maxine F. Banks (71) of Champaign; his sons, Kevin Lee Banks (49) of Aurora, Thomas Mathew Banks (46) of Atlanta, Ga., and Anthony Raymond Banks (42) of Scituate, Mass. Also surviving are two of his sisters, Peggy Martinek (75) of Algonquin and Mary Anne Banks (77) of Sarasota, Fla.; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 3, at Morgan Memorial Home, 1304 Regency Drive West, Savoy. Father Robert Rayson will officiate. Burial will be private.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
