CHAMPAIGN – Johnnie Vivian Peek, born Aug. 25, 1926, passed away peacefully in Wausau, Wis., on Nov. 30, 2012.
Johnnie was a longtime resident of Urbana. During her years in the Champaign-Urbana area, she was an active member of First Baptist Church of Champaign in Savoy, where she volunteered and served on the board. She also worked for many years as church secretary at the Pennsylvania Avenue Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her mother, Velma Summerlin, and father, William Edgar Summerlin, of Lexington, Mo.; her husband of over 50 years, Lee Peek; as well as all three of her children, Robert, William and Vivian. She is survived by her grandson, Lee Peek (Amy Peek); granddaughter, Nicole Maffia (Victor Sanchez); great-grandchildren, Maren Peek, Enzo Sanchez, Abigail Peek and Emilia Sanchez; and brothers, William Summerlin (Carol Summerlin) and Lee Roy Summerlin. Johnnie was beloved by many cousins, close friends and church members. She enjoyed nothing more than spending time with her loved ones near and far.
A celebration of her life will be held at Morgan Memorial Home, 1304 Regency Drive West, Savoy, on Tuesday, Dec. 4, from 4 to 6 p.m. A funeral service will be held in her honor on Dec. 5 at First Baptist Church of Champaign in Savoy at 10 a.m. The Rev. Randy Gauger will officiate.
