Paul Copass

HOMER – Paul Copass, 90, of Homer passed away at 6:05 a.m. Sunday (Dec. 2, 2012) at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, at Kirby Funeral Home, 708 S. Main St., Homer. Pastor Chuck Alt will officiate. Burial will be in the G.A.R. Cemetery in Homer. There will be a visitation from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, at the funeral home.

Mr. Copass was born Oct. 3, 1922, in Monroe County, Kentucky, a son of Anthus Brooks and Ella Hestand Copass. He married Geraldine Kemp on Jan. 31, 1948, in Monroe County, Kentucky. She passed away on Feb. 20, 2008.

Survivors include a daughter, Paula Ann (Moises) Moreno of Joliet; three sons, Richard Alan (Marsha) Copass of Carthage, Ind., Timothy Paul Copass of Broadlands and Kevin Kemp (Jodi) Copass of Normal. There are 10 grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, David, two brothers and three sisters.

Mr. Copass was an Army veteran, serving during World War II. He was a farmer for many years. His hobbies included gardening and woodworking. Memorial contributions may be made to the Homer Fire and Rescue or to the G.A.R. Cemetery in Homer.

Condolences. I delivered Paul's newspaper over the years and spoke with him on several occasions. He showed me his garden, left butternut squash for me, and shared stories. I will miss him. Greg Springer
