TOLONO – Lawrence H. Warfel, 89, of Tolono passed away at 12:58 a.m. Wednesday (Dec. 5, 2012) at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.
Private graveside services will be held.
Lawrence was born Feb. 26, 1923, in Tolono, the son of Roy Carl and Bessie Coen Warfel. He married Ozella Shoulders on May 24, 1942, in Newman. She preceded him on April 28, 2012.
He is survived by three sons, Henry Warfel of Moberly, Mo., Myron Warfel of Villa Grove and Steve Warfel of Tolono; daughter, Alma Beebe of Tyler, Texas; one sister, Bernice Powell of Atwood; 14 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded by his parents, one son, three sisters and six brothers.
Lawrence graduated from Tolono High School. He retired from Wickes Lumber after working 20 years full time and six years part time. Lawrence was self-employed after retiring from Wickes.
He was a member of Tolono United Methodist Church and a 50-year member of the Illinois Independent Order of the Odd Fellows. Lawrence was a coin collector, an avid fisherman and woodworker. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
