WELDON – Dean W. "Top Dog" Baker, 82, of Weldon passed away at 11:29 a.m. Friday (Dec. 7, 2012) at his residence in Weldon. Private family graveside services will be Monday, Dec. 10, at Weldon Cemetery with the Rev. C. Don Ferrill officiating. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. today (Sunday, Dec. 9) at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, where the family has requested casual attire. Memorials may be made to Mills Cancer Center in Urbana or to Carle Hospice Services in Champaign.
Dean was born April 12, 1930, in Clinton, the son of Orland and Winnie Brown Baker. He married Edith M. Yates on Aug. 4, 1951, in Paris, Ill.
Survivors include his wife, Edith M. Baker of Weldon; three children, Dean R. (Lenda) Baker of Weldon, Greg (Christi) Baker of Weldon and Bryan (Terrie) Baker of Lexington, Neb.; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. Also surviving is his twin brother, Darrell (Phyllis) Baker of Argenta.
Dean retired at the age of 81 after working for the Illinois Highway Department and also Weldon Fertilizer for 26 years, and most enjoyable, the last 16 years hauling grain with his sons and grandson.
Dean also enjoyed visiting with other truckers.
