Shelbyville – Grace Lewis Walton, 101, longtime resident of Shelbyville, died Tuesday (Dec. 4, 2012) at Jolley Acres Healthcare Center, Orangeburg, S.C.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today (Sunday, Dec. 9) at Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, with the Rev. Kevin Ray officiating. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. today. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville. Memorials may be given to the Shelby Humane Society, 1309 W. S. 7th St., Shelbyville, IL 62565.
Mrs. Walton was born in Tuscola, the daughter of Charley G. and Leora O'Bryan Lewis.
Grace worked for many years at Oliver Farm Equipment in Shelbyville and later retired as paymaster for the Secretary of State of Illinois. Mrs. Walton held several offices in the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post No. 4829 of Shelbyville. She was a member of The College of Regents of Women of the Moose.
She married Frank K. Walton on Nov. 19, 1949, in Sullivan. He died on March 1, 1982.
She is survived by her sister, Anna Donnabelle Kirby of Champaign; five grandchildren, Glenda McKeever, Susan Bender-McGuire, Perry Bender, Jeffrey Bender and Frank Arnold; six great-grandchildren, Charlie Cornele, Michael Bender, Jeremy Kipp Bender, Kaycee Arnold, Katelyn McKeever and Caitlin McGuire; and three great-great-grandchildren, Francis Colleen Bender, Sara Jane Bender and Elena Grace Cornele.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughters, Helen P. Arnold and Yvonne P. Dudderar; two brothers, Ike and Beech Lewis; and two sisters, Irene Childress and Helen Baldwin.
