CISSNA PARK – Daniel B. Hinkle, 67, of Cissna Park passed away on Monday (Dec. 24, 2012) at Hoopeston Community Hospital.
Dan was born July 20, 1945, in Watseka, a son of Clifford and Luradean "Jean" Brown Hinkle. He married Mary Martin on July 26, 1969, in Danville and she survives.
Other survivors include two daughters, Chris Hinkle of Washington, D.C., and Amanda Hinkle of Chicago; and two sisters, Donna (Steve) Allen of Boswell, Ind., and Sandy (Ken) Cooper of Franklin, Tenn.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Richard Samuel Hinkle.
Mr. Hinkle was a member of Milford Church of the Nazarene.
Along with his father, he was co-founder of Hinkle Produce.
During his life, Dan served in the Army Reserves and was past president of the Illinois Fruit and Vegetable Growers Association. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting and traveling with his family.
Dan was active in a wide range of philanthropic activities. Believing that charity begins at home, Dan was proud to support Pumpkins in the Park and several community organizations through his donations of seed, fertilizer, corn, pumpkins, children's books and toys. He also donated thousands of pounds of fresh produce over the years to national hunger relief organizations, including Feeding America.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the 1 p.m. funeral service on Friday, Dec. 28, at Knapp Funeral Home in Cissna Park. Rev. Robert Killion will officiate. Burial will be in Amity Cemetery in Goodwine.
Memorials may be made to Milford Church of the Nazarene, Cissna Park FFA, or Cissna Park Fire Department.
