EAST MOLINE – Diana D. (Blackwell) Polk, 69, of East Moline died on Saturday (Dec. 22, 2012) at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, in Silvis, Ill.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, at Sullivan-Ellis Mortuary Ltd., East Moline, with the rosary at 3:30 p.m. Rev. Donald Levitt will lead the rosary.
A visitation will be also be held from 11 a.m. until the start of her funeral services at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 28, at St. Luke CME Church in Champaign, with burial following at Mount Hope Cemetery, Champaign.
Diana was born in Decatur, Ala., the daughter of Herman and Ruth (Ewing) Blackwell.
She earned her bachelor's degree from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale and a Master of Science degree in Library and Information Sciences from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
She was the senior executive reference librarian for John Deere and Company for 26 years, retiring in 2000.
She was actively involved in her community, serving on the board of the Rock Island County Health Department, chairman of the board of directors for Project NOW, a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., and president of the Quad City Negro Heritage Society.
She is survived by her son, Henry of East Moline; brothers, Robert (Carolyn) Blackwell of Springfield and Victor (Kim) Blackwell of Chicago; sisters, Dorothy (Dejustice) Coleman of Milwaukee, Wis., Doris (Stanley) Butts of Champaign, Wilma Julia Conwell of Cleveland, Ohio, Clara Jean (Samuel) Johnson of Decatur, Ala., Mable Blackwell of Chicago and Ave Maria Blackwell Alvarado of Champaign; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Duane Wesley Blackwell and William Nelson Blackwell.
