CHAMPAIGN – Margaret Mary Maher Costa, 82, of Champaign passed away at 6:47 p.m. Saturday (Dec. 22, 2012) at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 28, at Owens Funeral Home, 101 N. Elm St., Champaign. Rosary recitation will be at 4:30 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 405 W. Clark St., Champaign. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Champaign.
She was born in Peoria to Claude Edward Maher and Kathleen Walsh Maher. Margaret graduated from Champaign High School. She was a seamstress and then an in-home caregiver in Cleburne, Texas, for 16 years, returning to Champaign in 2001.
She was married to Charles Michael Costa of Champaign. He preceded her in death.
She is survived by sons, Lawrence (Nancy) of Salem, N.C., and Michael (Rhonda) of Champaign. Also surviving are four grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death were one son, James Edward Costa, and one step-great-grandchild.
Margaret prided herself on her homemaking skills, especially cooking. She enjoyed reading cookbooks, historical magazines and doing crossword puzzles.
