CHAMPAIGN – Rodger D. Cooper, 81, of Champaign passed away at 4:20 p.m. Thursday (Dec. 20, 2012) at the Champaign County Nursing Home, Urbana.

Visitation will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 28, at Heath and Vaughn Funeral Home, 201 N. Elm St., Champaign. Masonic rites will be accorded by Urbana Masonic Lodge 157 A.F. & A.M. following the visitation.

Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens, Champaign, with military rites conducted by Champaign VFW Post 5520 Color Guard.

Mr. Cooper was born July 4, 1931, the son of Orville R. and Ruby A. (Minard) Cooper. He married Barbara A. Stout on Nov. 18, 1951, at University Place Christian Church, Champaign. She survives.

Also surviving are a son, Kevin (Diane) Cooper of Champaign; a daughter, Debra (Raymond) Griest of Urbana; five grandchildren, Rodger (Kendra) Watts, Dustin (Natalie) Cooper, Katrina Cooper, Jason and Justin Griest; and two great-grandchildren, Savannah and Mitchell Watts.

He was a graduate of Urbana High School. An Army veteran, Mr. Cooper served his country during the Korean War. Before his retirement, he owned the O.R. Cooper & Son Trucking Company.

He was a member of Urbana Masonic Lodge 157 and the Shriners. He was a motorcycle enthusiast and a vendor at Gordyville, offering concrete lawn ornaments.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to the Urbana Lodge 157 A.F. & A.M., 14 Bel Aire Court, Champaign, IL 61820.
