Bernard White

SAVOY – Bernard (Bernie) Charles White died on Dec. 26, 2012, at age 96 in Gifford. He was, until recently, a resident of Windsor Court in Savoy.

Bernie was born June 26, 1916, in Dayton, Ohio, the only child of Roy Spinner and Emma White. He grew up in Muskegon, Mich., and graduated from Marquette University in 1940, the first person in his family to graduate from college. He and Virginia (Gena) Ethel Mezzetti were married that year. She preceded him in death at age 95 in 2011 after 71 years of marriage.

The family wishes to thank Deanetra Brigham, who provided such loving care to Bernie and Gena.

Bernie served in the U.S. Army in England and France in World War II. He was in the Quartermaster Corps and liked to tell of wading ashore at Normandy carrying a typewriter shortly after D-Day.

Bernie was a Certified Public Accountant and loved accounting. He was chief financial officer of KVP-Sutherland Paper Company and, with Gena, had his own accounting firm until he retired at age 74. Bernie and Gena lived in Flint, Detroit, Kalamazoo, Birmingham and Grand Rapids, Mich., San Jose, Calif., and Champaign.

Two children survive, Kathleen Ann Stocks of Milwaukee, Wis., and B. Joseph White of Champaign. Bernie and Gena loved their children and daughter-in-law, Mary Patricia White; their grandchildren and spouses, Brian and Leisa White of Austin, Texas, and Audrey and Darren Imhoff of Fort Collins, Colo.; and their great-grandchildren, Bernie, Hattie and Lizzie White and Caleb and Owen Imhoff.

Bernie, you had a good, long life. We love you. Rest in peace.
