WELLINGTON – Joyce L. Brookwalter, 81, of Wellington passed away Wednesday (Dec. 26, 2012) at home.
Joyce was born June 20, 1931, in Rossville, the daughter of Frank and Nova (Bennett) Ault. She attended and graduated from Armstrong High School in 1950.
She was married to Martin Brookwalter on Sept. 30, 1950, in Milford. He preceded her in death in November 2003.
She is also preceded in death by her parents; one grandson, Jonathon Brookwalter; one brother, Russell Ault; four sisters, Marian DuPriest, Betty Gillis, Ruth Ann Handley and Frances Hasbargen; and special friends, Gene and Sylvia Simpson.
She is survived by four sons, Tom (Edye) Bookwalter of Hoopeston, Bryan Brookwalter of Wellington, Mike Brookwalter of San Diego, Calif., and Frank Brookwalter of Hardesty, Okla.; six grandchildren, Douglas Brookwalter, Rossanna (Justin) Curtis, David Brookwalter, Sarah Brookwalter, Rikki Brookwalter and Brandy (Patrick) Laffoon; three great-grandchildren, Logan, Triton and Kandyce; brother, Bob Ault of Hoopeston; sister, Roberta Pennington of Danville; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Elaine Hinkle and Don and Bonnie Wolfe.
Joyce worked at Howard Industries in Milford for 28 years and 15 years at TRW in Watseka. She then retired to be home with her children and husband.
Joyce was on the Wellington Village Board, where she served from 1995 to 2008. She loved to play Canasta and Crazy 8's. She also enjoyed traveling, cooking and fishing. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.
A Celebration of Joyce's life will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 30, at Wolfe-Blurton Funeral Home, 907 W. Main St., Hoopeston, with Pastor Jeff Alexander officiating. Burial will follow the service in Amity Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the family.
