GALESBURG – Mr. Jackie W. Hunt, 81, of 430 Hackberry Road, Galesburg, died at 5:40 a.m. Tuesday (Jan. 1, 2013) at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.
He was born Jan. 8, 1931, in Galesburg, the son of James Acie and Mollie Winder Hunt. He married Sally I. Brown on Aug. 29, 1952, in Cheyenne, Wyo.
Jackie is survived by his wife, Sally; three sons, Brad (and Kathy) Hunt of Lawrence, Kan., David Hunt of Bloomington and Jerry (and Natalie) Hunt of Champaign; a daughter, Lenore (and Marek) Sroka of Savoy; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Dennis (and Lori) Hunt of Alexis; and a sister, Sharon (and Chet) Gilbert of Petersburg.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Barbara MacKendrick.
Jackie worked in production planning at Butler Manufacturing Company in Galesburg for 41 years, retiring in 1991.
He was raised and educated in Abingdon, graduating from Abingdon High School in 1949. He had lived in Galesburg since 1955.
He was an active member of Bethel Baptist Church in Galesburg. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.
Jackie served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1955. He was a member of Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285.
The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, at Bethel Baptist Church. Rev. Lee Johnson and Rev. Kirk Kendall will officiate. Military rites will be accorded.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
