ARTHUR – Marjorie Ellen Ryan, 75, of Arthur passed away at 8:50 p.m. Friday (Jan. 4, 2013) at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, at the Edwards Funeral Home in Arcola. Father Barry Harmon will officiate. Burial will be in the Arthur Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today (Monday) at the funeral home.

Marjorie was born on March 21, 1937, in Neoga. She was a daughter of James M. and Irma M. (Ellis) Sampson. She married Rodney R. Ryan on April 24, 1954, in St. Charles, Mo.

Survivors include her husband, Rodney; three children, Robin A. Mattes and her husband John of Plano, Texas, Ronald R. Ryan and his wife Lori of Atwood and Donald W. Ryan and his wife Shari of Middletown, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one brother, Robert Sampson of Foosland; and three sisters, Joan Weber of Bourbonnais, Helen Johnson and her husband Kenneth of Mattoon and Eileen Summers and her husband Donald of Mount Vernon.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Rodney R. Ryan II; one grandson, Scott E. Ryan; three sisters, Norma Torano, Elflida Fleshner and Rosalie Pierce; and one brother, James Sampson.

Marjorie was a member of Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church in Arcola.

She drove a school bus for the Arthur school district for many years. She also managed the laundromat, but her No. 1 priority was caring for her family.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be made to the Piatt County Nursing Home, Halcyon Unit.
