CHAMPAIGN – Larry W. Long, 72, of Champaign passed away at 1:56 p.m. Wednesday (Jan. 9, 2013) at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 14, at Renner-Wikoff Chapel and Crematory, Urbana; Rev. Jim Blue will officiate. Military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post 71. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 13, at the funeral home.
Mr. Long was born on Jan. 18, 1940, in Atwood to parents Jesse and Jean (Glading) Long. On Feb. 21, 1970, he married Linda Wilson in Urbana. She survives.
Also surviving are his four children, Kyle Long of Olathe, Kan., Toni Windham of El Paso, Texas, Susan Long of Dewey and Carla Long of El Paso, Texas; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Ray Long.
Larry graduated from Champaign Central High School, whereupon graduating he entered the U.S. Air Force. After being discharged, Mr. Long worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a mail carrier for 51 years.
He was a member of AMVETS and also coached Little League for 12 years.
Larry was a simple man who loved his St. Louis Cardinals, Chicago Bears and Fighting Illini.
