WHITE HEATH – Ellis D. Brown, 92, died Tuesday (Jan. 15, 2013) at his home in White Heath.
He was born Aug. 12, 1920, in Urbana, a son of Vernon and Bertha (Davis) Brown. He attended Urbana High School and graduated from Hinsdale High School, where he excelled at both football and wrestling.
Ellis was a proud veteran and served in the Army from 1941 to 1945. He served in Germany, France, Austria and the Philippines during the war, and was awarded a Bronze Star for his efforts.
Ellis later retired from the Champaign Post Office in 1978, after 32 years of service. He enjoyed both the Cubs and the Bears, but his favorite pastime was his friends and family.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara (Wilson) Brown; daughters, Valerie (Dave) Godin of Wildomar, Calif., and Rosemarye (Mike) Rook of Monticello; sons, Bill (Diane) Brown of Champaign and Rick (Cindy) of Fort Myers, Fla.; brother, Stanley (Carol) Brown of Champaign; eight grandkids, Damon, Mindy, Jason, Derrick, Danielle, Carly, Hayden and Alyssa; and seven great-grandkids, Nathan, Katie, Dalton, Zach, Maddy, Makayla and Brayden.
He was preceded in death by both parents, one sister and four brothers.
Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, at Owens Funeral Home, 101 N. Elm St., Champaign. The funeral service will begin at 3 p.m. Burial will be private.
